It’s worth it to fight your taxes
Hey everybody, John Herman, PropertyUp, and today I want to talk to you about property taxes.
In the state of Illinois it’s a very important subject. There’s an amazing statistic that I just read saying that 70% of homeowners do not go in and fight their taxes every year, and this video is for you out there who do not.
So when you look at the mass Exodus that’s happening in the state of Illinois, we’re losing about 100,000 people per year, those taxes are going to have to be balanced out one way or another.
So I suggest you start looking at your taxes. You’re going to receive your forms in the mail probably in June and September every year and you should take a look at those pretty closely.
That’s going to have your appraised value and tax basis and everything else that’s related to your home. You have a time, within 30 days, usually after you receive that card, to go ahead and fight the taxes.
If you are among the majority that doesn’t, I highly suggest that you do. Everything is pretty much on line these days and if you decide that you just don’t want to do it on your own, there are about 1000 tax attorneys that would do the job for you. They take about half the profit, but it would definitely be beneficial to you.
So that’s my tip, don’t be the majority when it comes to taxes in the state of Illinois.
One more thing, if you are working on your taxes and you need what are called “comps,” which are basically comparable properties which have sold near you, I can produce that for you. So if you need that send me an email and send me your address and I’ll send you a market analysis for your house. That’s going to be the first tool you can use with the tax assessor to start working on reducing your taxes.
Hopefully you found that helpful and we will talk to you soon.
